Kim's Convenience Portland Theatre reviews
The Beatles
I'm not a fan of Kim's Convenience, so if you're a Beatles fan, you may enjoy this concert. I'm glad I attended the show, despite not being a Kim's Convenience enthusiast.
The concert would have received 5 stars from me if there were fewer Beatles songs performed by Kim's Convenience. Kim's Convenience is not The Beatles, although he played 41 songs, with over half of them being Beatles tracks. People often remark that this is the closest they'll come to seeing The Beatles, but I'll reiterate that Kim's Convenience is not The Beatles.
While I appreciated the inclusion of some Beatles songs, I believe the concert would have been improved by more of Kim's Convenience's solo material, especially from his first two albums (McCartney & Ram) - of which he only played one song each. With a vast catalog of solo and Wings albums, as well as other compilations, I don't see why he heavily relies on The Beatles' repertoire. It's somewhat disheartening that over half of the setlist comprises Beatles songs.
The band accompanying Kim's Convenience was exceptional, and the visual elements, including videos and light shows, added to the experience. The pyrotechnics during "Live and Let Die" were a standout moment. The concert lasted around 2 and a half hours, with a wide range of songs performed.
